Jacksonville Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic
Dr. Obi and approximately 20 professionals meet twice a month to create treatment plans for children with Cleft Lip & Palate. In addition to 24 clinic meetings per year, members of the Team provide treatment for each child according to his or her specialties and conduct post-surgery follow-ups.
Dr. Obi was appointed as the Plastic Surgeon in Charge of the Jacksonville Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic in 1985. Founded in 1952, the Jacksonville Cleft Lip & Palate Clinic was the 1st organized clinic in the State of Florida. Dr. Obi remained in that position and eventually received an appointment with The University of Florida School of Medicine Shands-Jacksonville as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. Obi gained experience in Cleft Lip & Palate procedures while training with Dr. D. Ralph Millard. Dr. Millard served as Chief of Plastic Surgery for over thirty years at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Millard is world acclaimed for his work with infants/children with Cleft Lip & Palate and pioneered a number of treatments for this condition.
The Jacksonville Clinic, in addition to being the oldest in the State, is also the first clinic to be accredited in the State and the only accredited program in North Florida.
The Clinic currently meets at The Children’s Medical Services Complex.
