Rhinoplasty in Jacksonville, FL

Change to the nasal appearance is a common request we get from men and women who want to feel better about their looks. If you’re in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Atlantic Beach and surrounding areas of Florida, working with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Obi, will help you understand if rhinoplasty is your best cosmetic option.

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, often called a nose job or nose reshaping, is performed at Jacksonville Plastic Surgery by Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. John Obi. The rhinoplasty procedure is performed at our on-site surgical facility, Jacksonville Plastic Surgery. Rhinoplasty is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation and is usually completed within 1 or 2 hours. Jacksonville Plastic Surgery Center is an accredited ambulatory surgery center.

What are the Benefits of Rhinoplasty?

The decision to have rhinoplasty is a very personal one and some of the most common benefits include:

  • Reducing or increasing the size of the nose
  • Changing the shape of the tip or the bridge
  • Narrowing the span of the nostrils
  • Changing the angle between the nose and upper lip
  • Correcting a birth defect or injury
  • Relieving breathing problems

Rhinoplasty can enhance your appearance and self-confidence, in addition to giving your face a more balanced and desirable shape. People of all ages find the nose reshaping procedure to be a most rewarding and beneficial experience.

What Happens During a Rhinoplasty Procedure?

Rhinoplasty surgery involves separating the skin of the nose from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. The skin is then re-draped over the new framework. Rhinoplasty can be performed from within the nose, making the incision inside the nostrils. An “open” procedure, especially in more complicated cases, can also be performed, making a small incision across the columella, the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils.

When rhinoplasty is performed from inside the nose, there is no visible scarring at all. When an “open” technique is used, or when the procedure calls for the narrowing of flared nostrils, the small scars on the base of the nose are usually not visible.

There are risks involved with any surgical procedure and the specific risks and restrictions after surgery will be discussed in detail at your consultation with Dr. John Obi. Before the surgery, patients are advised to avoid smoking and taking any medications (aspirin, Vitamin E, etc.) that may affect bleeding.

What is the Downtime After Rhinoplasty?

There are physical restrictions immediately following the surgery. Patients can usually return to limited activity within a week and full physical activity within several weeks.
